Autumn Farm Walk – AHDB/LIC/BGS
Tuesday 14 September
Join us on the farm of Jim Baird at Nether Affleck, Lanarkshire. The milking herd consists of 230 dual-purpose crossbred cows, calving from 1 October. Most are a two-way cross using black and white cows with Norwegian Red and Montbeliarde with yields of around 8,300 litres, with around 5,000 litres from forage. The grazing season typically runs from April through to November, and the adoption of rotational grazing practices has allowed Jim to grow and utilise grass better. Four silage cuts are taken per year to ensure high quality.
Visitors should arrive no earlier than 10.30am, with the walk starting promptly at 11am.
