The South West Scotland Grassland Society (SWSGS) forage competition was slightly different to usual in 2020. As in the past, all entries were initially submitted by members sending in their forage analysis. Instead of the judge visiting farms, silage sample were collected for the beef and dairy classes and judged on fresh silages, whilst the rest of the classes were judged purely on chemical analysis.
The final judging of the beef and dairy classes was held on 8th December, 2020 at the Crichton Royal Farm, Dumfries with Mr. Hugh McClymont, Manager of the SRUC Crichton Royal (and SWSGS committee member) as the judge.
The judging was filmed and a video is available here.
